Sucked into the cyber world

So I have decided to blog about my trip in Fes. Not sure if people will read this but at least now I don't have to write a million emails with the same stories and spend hours in the lab when I could be exploring the wonderful city of Fes. It's also a good way to keep track of my trip though I am also keeping a real journal this time that I have been really good at keeping up with. So here goes.....

It has been a week since I left the great US of A. My trip here was ridiculously long and was merely made longer by getting robbed on the night train from Casa to Fes in Kintera. No worries. After traveling ALL the way to just south of Fes, I had to turn around to go back to Rabat to wait for the embassy to open. However, thankfully, the police found my bag and it still had my passport and credit cards in it so I then had to go all the way back to Fes. I didn't end up arriving in Morocco until 11am on Sunday morning. At least all the was stolen was my digital camera and about $100 in cash. I was also missing random things like my toothbrush but nothing major.

I am living with a family in the old medina again. It is a really nice home and the family is massive. It isn't too far from where I lived before so I am mildly familiar with the area which is really good. The family is an older couple with nine children. They range from about 4-30 I'd say. There are also three grandchildren so the house is NEVER empty or quiet. I don't do much with them but sit and watch Noor which is a soap that comes on every night. Though the other night we watched the Titanic. Though I hate that movie it was nice to watch something in English.

Classes are going well. It is still much of a review for me but that is good because it has been quite sometime since I have studied MSA. I want to eventually study Moroccan Arabic because many people mistake me for being Moroccan already (since I am half Moroccan) and it would be easier to blend in here if I could speak the dialect.

It is really hot here and the medina is worse. It got to 108 yesterday which the locals say is even hot for Moroccan standards especially for June. I hope it cools down soon. Yesterday despite the heat we went exploring in Fes el-Jdad. Which is the new city between La Ville Nouvelle and the old medina. It is the traditional Jewish area and I was able to see the Temple and the cemetery for the Jews in Fes. There are only about 80 families left in all of Fes which isn't much and they live in La Ville Nouvelle so the temple I saw is no longer in use.

Well, that's all I feel like typing today. I'll try and stay on top of this.
